Long Summary[]

Kusuo investigated the ring he found. He learned that while it is sold the same as any normal ring, it is slightly different since it is made with a metalloid called Germanium. He is certain that it is the cause since he tested other products that contain the metalloid and yielded the same results. He is not sure why it happens but when in contact with it, he is unable to use his telepathy. He puts on the ring and is happy that he found it. He turns around behind him, mentions how quiet it is but quickly realizes this is normal for an average person. He explains he can hear everyone’s thoughts in a 200 meter radius, without an off switch, and thus it is always noisy for him. He is pleasantly surprised of this silence, it reminds him of when he is in outer space. He goes on to say that his first wish is to remove his telepathy. He then raises the hand with the ring into the air and happily exclaims that the wish has finally come true.

Kuniharu opens the door behind Kusuo and asks him what he is doing. Kusuo is frightened and runs, Kuniharu asks him why he is acting like that. Kuniharu then asks him if he is going downstairs, since dinner is ready and he should know that with his telepathy. He soon leaves and Kusuo says he should not scare him like that. Kusuo is still happy with no telepathy but having people come behind him is bad. He explains that his telepathy lets him know who is coming to him beforehand and what they want with him. That life is normal for him but with this ring it is more like he is surrounded with several Rikis. Not liking these circumstances, he considers removing the ring but then remembers there were things he wanted to do if this were to happen. He knows what he wants to do, so he gets ready to go into the city. His parents question where he is going without dinner and yet he leaves.

On a busy street, Kusuo is slightly nervous. He does not understand how everyone is so relaxed and not consider that the person next to them can be a murder. He points out a possible salaryman, which he considers as Nendou B, could come with a knife in his hand. He then points at a possible housewife, Nendou C, who could come with a frying pan. Afterwards he points out a possible old lady, Nendou D, that while she is old she could have a sharp object and he stops his thinking as he realizes something. He remembers he still has his x-ray vision since only his telepathy is affected by this ring. WIth his x-ray vision, he can see if someone has a dangerous weapon and he also realizes the old lady is actually an old man. Kusuo further explains that while he has abilities, he is still human and attacked unexpectedly with a weapon, there is a chance that he can die. If he knows an attack is coming, guns nor sharp objects would work on him. Now relieved that he does not need to worry about being in danger, he continues walking to his destination.

Kusuo arrives at a movie theater and says that this is the one place he wanted to go to. He explains he always has challenges with theaters and always failed, even with precautions he did. He likes movies but his telepathy made him incompatible to go to theaters. He remembers of a time when he was a child and he desperately wanted to watch a movie. Once he walked in, however, the movie’s ending was spoiled to him by those who just finished watching it. At his next attempt, he decided to watch a movie on opening day and on the first showing to counter it. What he did not take into account is the movie theater staff getting to watch movies before patrons, and thus got spoiled once again. He figured he will never not get spoiled and tried to watch one knowing this fact. He got annoyed with all thoughts of other movie goers so he decided to give up on going to watch a movie. Well that was the plan until he found the ring so he is going to watch a new movie this time around.

Kusuo buys a student ticket, names the staff member Nendou E, and is glad that he can not hear their thoughts about the movie. Walking away from the ticket booth, there are people coming out from watching a movie and talking about it. Kusuo is once again glad he can not hear the thoughts and calls the two Nendou F and G. A man, Nendou H, catches up to them and asks them how amazing was the last part out loud. Kusuo plugs his ears, blocking their voice, and does not hear them talk about how bad the movie was. He then goes to the concession stand to buy snacks and drinks before the movie starts. He goes a little overboard and unfortunately a guy bumps into him. Kusuo ends up dropping everything he had and the guy and his date are inconsiderate. He is angry, calls them Nendou I and J, stops his thoughts and then uses the letters J and K to call them jerks. He is surprised he was bumped into and thinks the situation would have been different if he had used his telepathy. He immediately stops the thought, reminding himself that the ability is unnecessary. He decides it is just something he has to face. In retaliation, Kusuo uses his telekinesis to throw the ice cubes from his spilled drinks at a fast speed to the back of their heads.

At the screening room, he checks his ticket and finds his seat. He sits down, finds the seat comfortable and thinks about how he will never remove the ring and use telepathy again. The person next to him is surprised and he turns to their direction. Kusuo coincidentally and unknowingly is sitting next to Kokomi. She believed it was him and is pleasantly surprised that she was correct. Kusuo is surprised and can not believe how this happened. He is slightly annoyed, thinks how he could have avoided this with his telepathy and considers removing the ring and escaping. He remembers about him saying he will not remove the ring, tries to think of what to do on his own. He sees Kokomi is nervous, questions her actions and is annoyed he can not hear her thoughts. She now considers her as basically Nendou L in this case and how he should leave. He then reconsiders since it is likely that this is the worst thing that can happen and nothing can make it worse. He explains he wanted to watch the movie for a while. He grabs a booklet with the visual poster on it, and says it is the live action movie of a series he likes. He believed he would not be able to watch it but now he is there and should watch it. He thinks that after it ends he would just leave quickly and everything would be okay. Kokomi nervously talks to him, wanting him not to misunderstand something, and he questions it. She tells him he is here with someone but is interrupted with someone calling her name.

A guy wearing sunglasses appears, telling her that he went to grab some snacks. The guy questions Kusuo and as to why he is sitting next to Kokomi. Kusuo figures out why she reacted like she did and he does not really care about it. He believes Kokomi found someone suitable for her, sees the booklet from earlier and questions it. The guy removes his sunglasses and Kusuo sees the guy looks similar to the actor in the booklet. The guy questions his business with Kokomi and in turn she tells him about his glasses. Kusuo is surprised. The other people in the audience question about the guy or are certain the guy is the actor. It is revealed he is Toru Mugami, the main actor of the movie they were about to watch, and everyone goes towards him. Kusuo questions why Kokomi brought Toru and once again thinks about using his telepathy to have avoided the situation. He was then squished in-between the large crowd and the movie showing was cancelled. Kusuo went home and removed the ring in defeat.
